Heather’s Story
After growing up in Queens and attending a famed Manhattan performing arts high school, Heather Senison started out as a beat reporter covering crime and politics. She graduated from SUNY Albany, where she won an award for exposing illegal asbestos abatement practices in the campus dorms.
Heather soon became an editor at Manhattan’s then-largest daily newspaper, amNewYork, before writing for leading publications like Forbes, The Real Deal, Newsday and the New York Post. Her name is among the most notable in the fields of real estate, architecture, interior design and personal finance.
Drawing from her experience in journalism, Heather eventually launched a second career as a content director. She finds
that what she learns from each profession gives her an edge in the other. In 2023, she wrote a cover story on a
North Fork oyster farm, along with an in-depth look at the affordable housing crisis out East,
for a NAREE Gold Award-winning New York Times special section on the Hamptons.
Her interests in real estate and finance were inspired by her grandparents, who built a dozen investment properties on
Long Island. In 2020, with a pre-Covid offer price and a mid-Covid interest rate, Heather bought an abandoned foreclosure in the majestic hills of the Hudson Valley. She fixed it up mostly by hand — and mostly thanks to the help of
her partner, Mike. The pair married in their home and, by the warmth of their wood stove, have two little boys
and an oversized rescue dog.
In her precious downtime, Heather enjoys music, books and outdoor activities.
She’s also a pretty good cook.
